The Boquería Market
The Mercat de Sant Josep is located at the heart of La Rambla, better known as La Boqueria. It is the most famous and picturesque market in Barcelona. This emblematic spot in the city, which occupies what was the courtyard of the old church of Sant Josep, it was opened in 1836. Initially the market was outdoors, and consisted of mobile vendors and farmers selling directly their products on the street. But it was in 1914 when the enclosure is permanently covered.
The exterior of the Boqueria is metal and glass structure. But inside that draws attention and makes this market, famous for the quality and diversity of its products from around the world, a recommended place to visit. The best way to feel its peculiar atmosphere is walking through the stalls of fruit and vegetables, fish and meat, close to bars and restaurants and enjoy the mixture of sounds, smells and tastes.
